Vintage heaven in Singapore at the Attic Place

Far East Plaza is somewhat of an oddity in Singapore.  Compared to the other sleek, modern malls on Orchard Road, Far East Plaza is ancient.   But you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.  Inside this concrete, urban building, it's a hot bed of cutting-edge fashion and independent boutiques and labels.  It's like an indoor Haji Lane.

The 1980s-esque interior is like a labyrinth, and it takes me, the AB and his mum several hours to navigate each of the building's four or five floors.   After one outing, I guarantee you'll still feel like you've missed something, so you will feel compelled to return to make sure you've explored every nook and cranny, just as the AB and I did.   Which is a  good thing, as we would never have stumbled upon the Attic, a little treasure trove of vintage loveliness.

It doesn't take a genius to work out why we would have missed it on our first outing.   Reason one, it's tiny.   It's one of those blink-and-you'll miss it type places.  Reason two, it's dimly lit so walking pass you'd automatically assume it was closed.   Plus there is no obvious shop sign.   I think the only reason we stopped in was because someone was leaving.

Entering the shop is like walking into Aladdin's cave.  The walls and every surface is adorned with some item or tricket, Chang the shop owner has picked up.  The AB was looking for some vintage Rayban Wayfarers and it was great speaking to someone who really knows their stuff and was able to offer us some really sound advice about buying vintage.   After speaking to Chang for a good few minutes, it was immediately apparent that the Attic was so much then a shop to him.

A quick survey of the room reveals that every item in the shop is well preserved and in immaculate condition.  Chang only stocks well kept authentic items, so you never have to worry about picking up a fake.   One things for sure, if I'm ever in the market for an original Chanel 2.55, the AB, or ahem...I know where to go.
