Seven course taster menu at Les Trois Garçons à la Groupon

“Seven Course Taster Menu for Two People at Celeb-Haunt Les Trois Garçons for £50.80” read the Groupon offer in my inbox at the end of last year.  Bargain. Now, this is an offer that’s worth being spammed with deals for laser hair surgery from back street clinics that I’d never consider venturing in even if you paid me.

The fact is since redeeming this offer at the beginning of the year, it has been the one and only Groupon offer that I’ve purchased and been able to redeem at a date and time that was convenient, and simply been happy with - I only wish I'd ordered more!

Les Trois Garçons is situated in a converted old East End boozer just off Bethnal Green Road.   From it’s enigmatic black exterior it’s hard to believe that behind the blacked out windows conceals a theatrical wonderland, a magical emporium filled with taxidermy and other charming antiquities.

So on to the deal.  For £50.80 instead of £127 (usually £63.50 per person) the AB and I feasted on a range of classically inspired French food with modern twists, while enjoying top-notch service.   The staff were incredibly courteous, and spent a great deal of time to introduce and talk through the menu, helping to whet our appetites and make the experience even more memorable - it's a shame that more restaurants don't do this.

The seven courses

Amuse bouche – a hot silky smooth shot glass of pumpkin soup

Home cured foie gras in Sauternes “au torchon” with pear and raisin chutney and toasted brioche

Tortellini of Dorset crab, langoustine and a lemongrass sauce

Stonebass with seared scallops, mussels gratin, samphire and shellfish sauce

Seared Gressingham Duck Breast with truffled parisienne-style gnocchi, confit leg, savoy cabbage, red win braised salsify and mushroom sauce

Milk chocolate and praline mille feuille with champagne poached pear and Earl Grey tea ice-cream

Verdict:  Even without the deal, I’ll definitely return to Les Trois Garçons for its eclectic interior, deliciously cooked food and service.  One of the most pleasurable budget dining experiences I've ever enjoyed - c’est magnifique! My top tip for purchasing a deals offer is make sure you do your research.  An offer is only as good as the establishment offering it.

Other information:  Wine pairing is available at a very reasonable £39 per person.  If you fancy some pre-drinks cocktails - it's also worth checking out, sister bar LoungeLover around the corner.
